According to a recent study by the Handshake network, almost two-thirds of today's (US) students stated that they were more likely to apply to a job that committed to sustainable practices. This could include a signed climate pledge, carbon offsets, or corporate sustainability initiatives.

It's inspiring to see that younger generations are becoming more vocal and active about this important issue. Climate change is not only top of mind, it's become part of their values.

But how to engage the current workforce and potential new employees around sustainability, both environmental and social? Here are some tips:

  • Install an impact taskforce with people from all levels of the organization to prioritize sustainability.

  • Involve all employees in setting goals, generating ideas, and executing plans. The best ideas often come from within your team.

  • Make all employees responsible by integrating social and environmental goals into their jobs and performance reviews.

  • Highlight your progress and commitments to sustainability in job descriptions, on the website and social channels.

  • Communicate and celebrate small impact wins with the full company.
